With intensive production, a kitchen worker or a baker interacts with a tablet more than 100 times/day. That’s why we are very serious about its choice, its placement in the production room, its mounting and wifi signal intensity.
Choosing a tablet
We recommend a 10 inch Android tablet of 6th version. The screen will last longer if made of a special glass and not covered with cheap plastic. The application is not demanding of a tablet properties, but still we recommend to buy models with operative memory more than 1 GB.
As for prices, our advice is not to choose cheap models. It is a commercial application and the device will be used more often than average.
Where to place a tablet
There are several possible strategies to choose the best place in the production room:
Place | For whom it is suitable |
Near the work table where a baker spends most of the time | Suitable in most cases. A baker always sees the steps that are being made now and that are coming next. |
A table for product packaging | for those working with “frozen goods” and packing products before selling them, it can be an alternative solution. |
Near a dough mixer | It is convenient to see ingredients to be put in a mixing bowl if the tablet is positioned next to the dough mixer, but it is not convenient to enter produced items in this case. |
We always recommend letting a baker choose between these three options and listening to his ideas. Perhaps you don’t take all the factors into account.
Mounting a tablet
When a place was chosen, it is important to properly fasten the tablet. In our experience, it is better to mount it on a wall at a low level so that it is easily accessible to bakers and they do not have a back pain in the evening.
A modern Android tablet can endure high temperature, humidity and food contamination of the production room. But it will be damaged if dropped on the floor or by contact with liquids. Therefore, it should be removed from the wall as seldom as possible:
The hooks shown on the picture are the best for the task of keeping the tablet at the right height and not letting it slide or wobble.
WiFi signal
The last item on our list, but not the least important, is the strength of the wifi signal. If a baker’s tablet does not get data from a server or receives it with a delay, it will affect the work. Click on the Help button to measure the strength of the WiFi signal in Bakeit.app.
The number should be greater than -60, for example -50 or -30. If the signal is lower, we recommend installing a repeater station or a wifi signal booster. But do not change the tablet position because of it. User comfort is the top priority.
